> Chan Master Lingyin Huichun Yuanzhi of Lin'an Prefecture ascended the hall: "'My mind is like the autumn moon, / crystal-clear in the emerald pool.'" Then he gave a shout and said: "Hanshan's words have lapsed! Venerable Chan monks! Pure and dustless—how could the mid-autumn moon compare? Emptily luminous and beyond comparison—not even a jewel illuminating the world can rival it. Encountering and exposing heaven and earth, its light engulfs myriad phenomena; spanning the heavens and encompassing the earth, it illuminates the past and vaults over the present. Tell me, what is this?" After a long pause, he said: "'On this night, a single disc is full; / where is its pure light absent?'"
