> Chan Master Jingci Xiang of Lin'an Prefecture was a native of Shanyin in Yuezhou. He ascended the hall and said: "An ancient once said: 'A cataract in the eye, and illusory flowers fall in confusion.'" Holding up his staff, he said: "When Jingci holds up this staff, is that not a cataract in the eye? Hundreds of thousands of all the Buddhas are gathered at the tip of the staff, manifesting their sixteen-foot bodies of purple-refined gold, traveling to their lands throughout the ten directions, expounding all teachings and delivering all sentient beings. Is that not illusory flowers falling in confusion? Right now, is there anyone who has severed \[the flow\] before the staff is held up? Come forward and meet Jingci! If there is no one, take special care not to fixate upon the place where space fundamentally has no flowers and the eye fundamentally has no cataract." He then cast down his staff and descended from the seat.
