> Chan Master Fozhao Jue of Junshan in Yuezhou ascended the hall and cited: 'An ancient said: "Looking up to it, it is ever higher; drilling into it, it is ever firmer. Beholding it in front, suddenly it is behind." Do you people recognize it? If you do not recognize it, I shall explain it thoroughly for you: Looking up to it, it is ever higher—not separated by a single hair; the crucial checkpoint is held fast, Buddhas and patriarchs cannot escape. Drilling into it, it is ever firmer—the true substance is natural; birds cry and flowers smile in front of the Blue Cliff. Beholding it in front—neither upright nor biased; sitting and severing the ten directions, majesty subdues the chiliocosm. Suddenly it is behind—a complete blunder; laughable that Yunmen hides his body in the Northern Dipper. Bah!'
