> Chan Master Puci Yunwen of Xuefeng Chongsheng in Fuzhou was a son of the Shen family in Hongzhou. Instructing the assembly, he said: “A sandalwood forest is surrounded by sandalwood. A lion forest is surrounded by lions. A tiger and wolf forest is surrounded by tigers and wolves. A briar forest is surrounded by briars. Great assembly! In which kind of forest is it proper to dwell in peace? If you clearly understand this, then within ninety days I guarantee each and every one will become a Buddha and an ancestor. If not yet so, the prajñā forest withers year after year, and the wild grass of ignorance grows year by year.”
