> Recorder Nan was a native of Fuzhou. For a long time he relied upon Ying'an. At Zhaozhou's topic of the dog having no Buddha-nature, he had a sudden realization and accord. He composed a verse: / "The dog has no Buddha-nature; / The Rahu star enters one's destiny. / If one does not beat someone to death, / One will definitely be beaten to death by others." / Ying'an saw it and was delighted by his free and uninhibited spirit. At the end of the Shaoxing reign era, he passed away at Guizong.
