> Chan Master Sizhen of Renshou in Chuzhou. A monk asked, "Knowing that the Master has already attained the essential purport in Chan, for whom do you expound the phrase facing the sun?" The Master said, "Earthen chickens and pottery dogs." The monk asked, "How should I understand this?" The Master said, "Before the gate, I do not have the mountain lad sweep; / At will, pine needles cover the forks in the road." He ascended the hall and said: "Clearly there is no awakening; where there is a dharma, there is delusion. When the sun rises without clouds, it shines brightly and universally across the sky. When there are no cataracts in the eyes, space is fundamentally without flowers. Before those without wisdom, you must not cite it mistakenly. Practice!"
