> Chan Master Guangpu of Yongqing in Guozhou first asked Guyin, "The ancient said: 'Tomorrow there will be a vegetarian feast at the Great Compassion Monastery'—what was the meaning?" Guyin said, "When the sun comes out, sit leaning into the sunlight; when the weather is cold, do not raise your head." When the Master entered the abbot's room, Guyin said, "How do you understand the nidāna from a moment ago?" The Master said, "If one understands, it is used along the road; if one does not understand, it is circulated as worldly convention." Guyin said, "Not yet! Say more." The Master flicked his sleeves and walked right out. After he took up abbotship, a monk asked, "What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?" The Master said, "The land of Shu uses refined steel."
