> Chan Master Xiansheng of Junshan in Yuezhou. He ascended the hall: 'The great square has no outside, encompassing the ten directions of space; the ultimate principle has no form, harmoniously integrating the three times. Transcending names and forms, the wondrous essence is fully revealed; far surpassing past and present, the true mechanism alone is exposed. Grasping the black pearl to reflect things, each and every thing pours forth radiance; brandishing the precious sword to slash through emptiness, emptiness itself leaves no trace. Holding fast, Magadha closes its room and Vimalakīrti seals his lips; letting go, Shide shakes his head and Hanshan claps his hands. And tell me, whose realm is this?' Raising his staff, he struck once and said, 'Where eyes blink and eyebrows raise, I rely on you to look carefully.'
