> The kingdom of Jāguḍa (Zaoguzha, also called Zaoli). It is more than seven thousand li in circuit, and the royal city is more than thirty li in circuit. Mountains and rivers are equally divided. There are several hundred monasteries, with several tens of thousands of monks, all studying the Mahāyāna. There are ten stūpas of King Aśoka. Deva temples number several tens, and most \[of the people\] are reckoned as non-Buddhists. The soil is suitable for saffron (turmeric) aromatic grass, and produces \*hiṅgu grass (asafoetida), which grows in Rāma. In the southern border of the Indian valley is Mount Śunāsīra (Zhuanaxiluo). More than two thousand li southeast of the royal city, one reaches the kingdom of Varna (Facilana) in western India. Only here does it meet the northern route, heading south toward the land of the Buddha.
