> Zhang Quan, styled Xiushuo, was a clansman of Laimin. His disposition was lofty and unconstrained, and he was intensely fond of ancient texts; even while plowing and hoeing, he still carried scriptures, finding joy in them. The imperial court summoned him as a Cavalier Regular Attendant, but he did not go. Yu Yue, on account of his poverty, wished to provide for him with the post of Magistrate of Xunyang; \[Quan\] laughed and said: 'The ancients found peace merely in a room just big enough for the knees; if I bend my will, what glory is there?' In the end, he did not take it up. He entered Lushan and relied upon Master Yuan's Pure Society. He died in the first year of Jingping of the Song, the year guihai, at the age of sixty-five.
