### [12.23](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2102.12.23)

> Those who sit with one leg raised are never upright; when preaching the Dharma from a high seat, they also raise their legs and squat. Food in foreign lands is mostly eaten by hand, and the precepts have no mention of spoons and chopsticks. The cohort of Huiyi knows this but does not change it, yet as for sitting with one leg raised, they are permanently unabashed; to conform and contradict oneself like this—who can untangle it? This disciple's thought has always been that to share a fault with others is better than boasting of oneself. This is pushing one's heart to delight in unity, not presuming to seek self-righteousness. Today, white-robed laymen who uphold the Dharma decidedly cannot adopt foreign garments; why must śramaṇas stubbornly maintain this partial rule?
