> I reply: The Dao of a monk naturally takes reverence as primary; but because the paths are different, by principle there is no humbling or bending. Therefore, despite the gravity of kinship by nature, physical etiquette is entirely discarded. The reason monks defer to their teachers and elders and mutually revere one another is truly because, their宗旨 and purport being the same, elder and younger are completely ordered; their reliance on awakening being linked, practice and mind correspond. Originally, though the Buddha's Dharma is vast, it does not leave out minor good; the retribution for even a fraction of merit also responds. Piling fine hairs makes a mountain—the principle of this is clear.
