> The Shengxuan jing says: 'If there is a śramaṇa who wishes to come listen to scriptures and observe the retreat, the host of the offering must not calculate the expense of food and drink to block and refuse him; he should usher him to the high seat, with the Daoist scripture master naturally below him.' The Shengxuan jing also says: 'When Daoists arrange an offering feast, if a monk comes, he may be ushered to the high seat, and good offerings should be laid out, with the Daoist scripture master naturally below him. If a nun comes to hear the Dharma, she should be settled in a secure place and ushered to a high seat; the host of the offering should make offerings according to the Dharma and must not bar her.'
