- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [22.23](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2103.22.23)

> Furthermore, if a knife of yesterday is cast into a sword today, the sharpness of the sword is the sharpness of the knife, but the shape of the knife is not the shape of the sword. The function of sharpness has not changed, yet the form of its substance has already shifted. How does this differ from someone being born as A in a former life and as C in a later life? The realms of devas and humans may differ, but the spirit of past consciousness is still transmitted. How is this any different from a sword becoming a knife, or a knife becoming a sword?
