- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.13](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2103.3.13)

> Those among the worldly who slander it fall generally into five classes: The first consider affairs beyond this world and unfathomable spiritual transformations to be absurd fabrications. The second consider good and bad fortune, and disasters and blessings, that may yet lack retribution, to be deceit. The third consider the conduct of monks and nuns, being for the most part impure, to be treacherous wickedness. The fourth consider the squandering of gold and jewels and the depletion of taxes and corvée labor to be harmful to the state. The fifth consider that even if there are causes and conditions that repay good and evil, how could the toil and hardship of person A today bring benefit to person B in a future life? This they take to be \[the concern of\] an unrelated person. I now explain all of these below.
