- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [9.78](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2103.9.78)

老子百八十戒重律云。吾戒大重。向樹說之則枯。向畜說之則死。又靈寶經云。玄素之道。古人修之延年益壽。今人修之消年損命。

> The Heavy Vinaya of the Hundred and Eighty Precepts of Laozi says: “My precepts are exceedingly heavy. If one speaks them to a tree, it will wither; if one speaks them to a beast, it will die.” Furthermore, the Lingbao Scripture says: “The Dao of the dark and plain: when ancients cultivated it, it extended their years and increased their lifespan; when people of today cultivate it, it diminishes their years and harms their lifespan.”
