> I asked again: "Why is it that in the region of Shu, at the Sanxueshan Temple in Jianzhou, the sky-lamp is constantly bright?" He replied: "The mountain has a Bodhisattva Temple, originally established during the True Dharma era of Kāśyapa Buddha; it was built by Bodhisattva Joyous King. The temple was named Fadeng. From then until now, it has remained constantly bright in the open sky. There are three hundred lesser bodhisattvas who abstain from grain and have attained longevity, constantly residing on this mountain. The lamp was later maintained as an offering by the mountain deity Li Te (Te was formerly ruler of Shu). Therefore, in the first month, lamps are lit everywhere to make offerings to the Buddhist temples."
