> The bodhisattva says: When Confucius went to Zhou, he met Lao Dan and inquired about propriety; this is fully clear in the Shiji. But serving as the teacher of King Wen lacks canonical evidence. Arising at the end of the Zhou, his affairs can be traced; but being in the early Zhou, the historical texts do not record it. Furthermore, examining the official system of the Zhouli during the eras of Kings Wen, Wu, Cheng, and Kang, there are no titles of Archivist of the Pillars or Keeper of the Archives. He must have been a minor official omitted from the official categories at the end of the Zhou.
