> The External Argument says: The Daoist and Buddhist scriptures each have their own claims. Some say they appear in the world kalpa after kalpa, competing that none came before; others say they are born age after age, vying to declare their antiquity. These are remote matters and difficult to verify. Now, relying on historical records, we determine their eras: speaking in terms of human relations, the elder is revered and the junior is lowly; speaking in terms of the local community, there is the elder brother and the younger brother. This is the sixth difference, regarding priority.
