折疑論 3.196

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.196](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2118.3.196)

老子曰。是以聖人去甚去奢去泰（去皆上聲。老子所云。甚奢泰三字。皆是過中不當之義。是以聖人去除。甚過音樂。奢過服食。泰過宮室。若無此三者則合中矣）。

> Laozi said, 'Therefore the sage discards the excessive, the extravagant, and the extreme' (qù is in the falling tone; what Laozi said with the three words 'excessive, extravagant, extreme' all carry the meaning of going beyond the mean and being improper; therefore the sage removes them: 'excessive' means going too far in music, 'extravagant' means going too far in dress and food, 'extreme' means going too far in palaces; if one lacks these three, one accords with the mean).
