> It is that to which a person's hun and po souls return (The Spring and Autumn Zuo Tradition says: 'When human life begins to transform, it becomes the hun. Once the po is generated, the yang is called hun.' The Huainanzi says: 'The qi of heaven becomes the hun; the qi of earth becomes the po.' The Book of Rites says: 'The hun-qi returns to heaven; the bodily po reverts to earth.' For the hun is the spirit, yang, and qi; the po is the essence, yin, and bodily form. This concludes the preceding statement that it is that to which a person's hun and po return and revert).
