- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.53](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2118.4.53)

> Yet, when the pulao holds its resonance and the great whale strikes it, its sound cannot be muffled (in the sea there is a great fish named whale; on the sea islands there is a beast named pulao. The pulao fears the whale; whenever the whale leaps, the pulao lets out a great roar. Therefore the shape of a pulao is cast on bells, and the wood used to strike the bell is shaped like a whale. Thus the questioner is like the whale, and the respondent is like the responding sound of the pulao).
