Why is it called Tapana (Scorching)? They lead the sinners and place them into an iron city; that city is ablaze with fire, red-hot inside and out, scorching the sinners. They also place them upon an iron tower; that tower is ablaze with fire, red-hot inside and out. They also fling them into a large iron kiln; that kiln is ablaze with fire, red-hot inside and out, scorching the sinners so that their skin and flesh are charred and rotted, and myriad afflictions arrive at once. Because their remaining retribution is not yet finished, it makes them not die; hence it is called Tapana. Having endured suffering for a long time, they exit the Tapana hell and reach the Black Sand hell, and so forth up to the Cold Ice \[hell\], after which their life comes to an end.
