He upheld the Dharma with diligence, and his sons and daughters followed and cultivated it as well; only his wife was deluded and closed-minded, having no faith in the Śākya teaching. In the early years of the Yuanjia reign era, his daughter died of illness at the age of fourteen and revived after seven days. She said that a high seat should be set up along with the \*Sūtra of Immeasurable Life\*. Shizi thereupon prepared the scripture seat for her. Although the daughter had previously observed the vegetarian fasts and paid homage, she had never read the scriptures; yet she ascended the seat and chanted them, her voice and phrasing clear and fluent. Descending, she announced to her father: "Upon dying, your child went directly to the Land of Immeasurable Life, where I saw that for my father, my elder brother, and myself—the three of us—there were already large lotus blossoms in the pond, and we would later be reborn by transformation within them. Only my mother alone had none. Unable to bear this sorrow, I deliberately returned with this mind to inform you." When she finished speaking, she expired again.
