- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [16.10](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2122.16.10)

> 'I, so-and-so, for the rest of my life, toward all sentient beings, superior and inferior, without distinction of ordinary or sage, have not given rise to the intention to kill.' And so on through the tenth: 'I, so-and-so, for the rest of my life, toward all sentient beings, superior and inferior, without distinction of ordinary or sage, have not given rise to wrong views' (say this three times). These ten wholesome deeds guard against the three physical faults—killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct; the four verbal faults—false speech, frivolous talk, divisive speech, and harsh words; and the three mental faults—greed, anger, and wrong views. These ten are the root of all goods. To cease \[from them\] is to uphold; to act \[contrary to them\] is to transgress. Transgression is the root of the ten evils and also the calamity of myriad disasters.
