At that time, there was a frog in that pond. Hearing the sound of the Buddha expounding the Dharma beside the pond, it came out of the pond and went beneath the roots of grass to listen to the Buddha expounding the Dharma. At that time, a man holding a staff was herding cattle. Seeing the Buddha seated expounding the Dharma for the assembly, he went to the Buddha's place wishing to hear the Dharma. Poking the ground with his staff, he mistakenly struck the frog's head. It immediately died and was reborn in the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven. Due to its karmic reward, its palace was twelve yojanas in extent, and it enjoyed pleasures in the company of heavenly maidens. Riding its palace, it immediately went to where the Buddha was and bowed its head to his feet. The Buddha, knowing full well, asked: “Who are you, that you suddenly bow to my feet?
