- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [17.74](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2122.17.74)

> Furthermore, the Lotus Sūtra says: "Whether while the Buddha is in the world or after his extinction, if there are those who slander such a scripture as this, or seeing those who read, recite, copy, and uphold this scripture, despise, hate, and harbor grudge against them—now listen again to this person's sinful retribution: When this person's life ends, they will enter the Avīci Hell for a full kalpa; when the kalpa ends, they will be reborn \[there\] again; passing through cycles like this for incalculable kalpas. Emerging from hell, they will fall among animals; for incalculable kalpas, they will constantly be born deaf, mute, and with incomplete faculties. He addressed Śāriputra: 'If I were to speak of the sins of those who slander this sūtra, exhausted kalpas would not suffice.'"
