> As the sūtra states, the thousand petals and thousand Buddhas take a single petal as a flower; hence, on a single flower of a thousand petals, a thousand Buddhas appear in the world. Furthermore, as the Sūtra on the Contemplation of Samantabhadra says, the domain ruled over by the Dharma-Buddha Tathāgata Vairocana pervades all places, and the dwelling place of that Buddha is called the Ever Silent Light. Based on this, it clarifies the dwelling of non-dwelling, guiding the empty minds of ordinary mortals to make them venerate it; yet, to speak in terms of the ultimate truth, how could there be a dwelling place? In this way, across the boundless worlds of the ten directions, the Buddhas and Tathāgatas never cease their conversion for an instant. Past, present, and future are spoken of according to the arising and cessation of ordinary mortals and based on transformation. If we rely on the true teaching, the holy conversion is ever pervasive, its efficacy equal to the dharmadhātu; it cannot be limited to a single realm, nor can it be confined to the three times. Now, we temporarily speak on the basis of Śākyamuni's manifestations and conversions during his single lifetime. Therefore, he provisionally entered the womb, accomplished the Way through the eight aspects, benefited those of shallow capacities, and gradually opened up the great teaching; even his parents, relatives, and worldly superiors paid reverence to the Tathāgata—how much more should lowly ordinary mortals not be reverent and devout!
