Later, when he wished to take the fire, the fire was entirely extinguished; when he wished to take cold water, the water had become hot. Both the fire and the cold water were lost. Worldly people who enter the Buddha-Dharma and leave household life to seek the Way, having left household life, still think of wife and children and the pleasures of the five desires. Because of this, they lose their fire of merit and also lose their water of maintaining the precepts.
