> Furthermore, the Old Sūtra of Miscellaneous Parables says: In the past, a śramaṇa chanted the scriptures day and night. A dog lay beneath the bed, wholeheartedly listening to the scriptures, no longer thinking of food. In this way years accumulated. When its life ended, it attained human form and was born as a woman in the country of Śrāvastī. When she grew up and saw a śramaṇa begging for food (piṇḍapāta), she ran and personally brought food to give to the śramaṇa with joy. Later she became a bhikṣuṇī and attained the path of the Arhat.
