> Furthermore, the Mañjuśrīparinirvāṇa-sūtra says: The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Bhadrapāla: 'This Mañjuśrī has great compassion. He was born in this country, in the village of Tāla, in the household of the brāhmaṇa Brahmadeva. At the time of his birth, the house within transformed into a lotus flower. He emerged from his mother's right flank; his body was of purple-golden colour. Falling to the ground, he was able to speak, like a divine boy. There was a canopy of seven jewels that followed and covered him. None among the ninety-five kinds of debate masters was able to respond to him. He went forth to study the path only under the Buddha, abiding in the Śūraṅgama-samādhi. Four hundred and fifty years after the Buddha's nirvāṇa, he will go to the Snowy Mountains to proclaim the twelve divisions of scriptures for five hundred ṛṣis, and having taught and transformed them to abide in non-retrogression, he will go to the place of his original birth. In an empty wild marsh, under a nyagrodha tree, he will sit cross-legged and enter the Śūraṅgama-samādhi. Golden light will issue forth from all the pores of his body, illuminating the worlds of the ten directions everywhere to deliver those who have affinity. His body will be like a purple-golden mountain, exactly sixteen feet tall, with a round halo radiant and clear, each side one vyāma. Within the round halo there are five hundred transformed Buddhas; each transformed Buddha has five transformed bodhisattvas as attendants.' The Buddha told Bhadrapāla: 'This Mañjuśrī possesses immeasurable supernatural powers and transformations that cannot be fully recorded. If any sentient being merely hears the name of Mañjuśrī, the transgressions of birth and death for one billion two hundred million kalpas will be eliminated. If they prostrate and make offerings, in life after life they will constantly be born in a Buddha's family. If they have not yet seen him, they should recite and uphold the Śūraṅgama\[-samādhi\] and call upon the name of Mañjuśrī; for one to seven days, Mañjuśrī will certainly come to that person's place. If one has karmic hindrances from past lives, one will see him in a dream. Those who see him in a dream, if they seek to be a śrāvaka in their present body, will attain from srotāpanna up to anāgāmin because of seeing Mañjuśrī. If a renunciant sees him, because of having seen him, they will become an arhat in one day and one night. If there are those with deep faith in the Vaipulya sūtras, this Dharma Prince will preach the profound Dharma for them during meditative absorption. For those whose minds are largely distracted, he will preach the true meaning in their dreams, causing them to be steadfast and attain non-retrogression in the unexcelled path. After my parinirvāṇa, among all sentient beings, those who are able to hear the name of Mañjuśrī or see his image will not fall into the evil destinies for hundreds of thousands of kalpas. If there are those who uphold and recite the name of Mañjuśrī, even if they have heavy hindrances, they will not fall into the fierce raging fires of the Avīci hell, but will constantly be born in pure lands in other directions, meet Buddhas, hear the Dharma, and attain the forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas.'
