> With earnest resolve embracing ice and snow, / Declining years press close to the mulberry and elm. / Sighing deeply at the swiftness of the river's waves, / How sad that human lifespans are constrained! / The passing year gathers in all harvests; / In late winter one fears the severe withering. / With sincere devotion seek charity and precepts, / With forbearance, vigor, concentration, and wisdom as the eyes. / Joining companions to journey far together, / In the supreme land their minds correspond. / The merchants disregarded death, / And the rākṣasa could not overcome them. / Seeking jewels, they drained the great ocean; / Terrified, the deity presented the radiant pearl. / A word sent to those who seek the Path: / If you establish your resolve, the recompense will not be in vain.
