> and the various stupas of Ānanda, Rāhula, Mañjuśrī, and others. On each of the three long months and the six fast days, the monks and nuns gather to make offerings to the various stupas. Those of the Abhidharma assembly make offerings to Śāriputra's relic stupa; those who practice dhyāna make offerings to Maudgalyāyana's stupa; those who recite sūtras make offerings to Pūrṇa's stupa; those of the Vinaya assembly make offerings to Upāli's stupa; the assembly of nuns makes offerings to Ānanda's stupa; those who have not yet received full ordination make offerings to Rāhula's stupa; and the Mahāyāna assembly makes offerings to the stupas of the various bodhisattvas. (Upon investigating these stupas, they do not necessarily contain physical remains, but are rather places where statues are set up and offerings presented to manifest devotion; for example, according to the sūtras, Rāhula and Mañjuśrī have not entered nirvāṇa, by which one may know this.) Six li east of the city, there is a mountain cliff monastery built by the Venerable Upagupta, in which there is a stupa for the Buddha's finger- and toenails. North of the monastery is a stone cave. More than twenty li southeast of the cave, there is a large dried-up pond with a stupa beside it. The Buddha once visited here, and a monkey held honey to offer to the Buddha, who instructed that it be mixed with water so that the whole assembly might drink it together. Overjoyed, the monkey fell into a pit and died, immediately taking rebirth among humans. In the forest north of the pond are the walking places of the four Buddhas, where abundant traces remain.
