> The Great Tang arose from the east; / Receiving the mandate, the dragon soared. / Radiating over all the land, / Its grace extends to the four barbarians. / Its civilising influence surpasses the Three \[Sovereigns\] and Five \[Emperors\]; / Its virtue exceeds Xuanyuan and Fuxi. / Suspending high the jade mirror, / It lets its robes droop in non-action. (One) / The Dharma of the Way is spontaneous; / The Confucian school accommodates the world. / Pacifying superiors through the practice of ritual; / Transforming customs through the regulation of music. / Originating in the Central Plains, / It does not correspond to remote branches. / The teaching of Śākya descended here, / Operating in the limitless. (Two) / Divine power is unconstrained, / Accommodating transformations without bound. / Now welling up from the earth, / Now descending from heaven. / A hundred kotis of suns and moons, / The three-thousand great-thousand \[worlds\]. / The clouds of Dharma billow together; / The subtle principle is universally proclaimed. (Three) / How luxuriant is this mountain, / With marvels in abundance! / Above fly clouds of fragrance, / Below overlooks clear waters. / Where divine holy ones descend and gather, / Where the worthy and virtuous pass through. / Preserving holy traces on the perilous peaks, / Leaving footprints at the rocky slope. (Four) / Jagged ridges and peaks, / Overlapping tiers of rocky chambers. / Resonating with precious chimes, / Fraught with exotic incense. / Gazing upon the divine traces of Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa, / We carve the upright stele on the lofty ridge. / Extending the pure transformation of the Great Tang, / To endure as long as heaven and earth. (Five)
