> Traveling southwest through various countries, all of which possess extraordinary traces, after about five thousand li one arrives at the country of Kosala, which is the proper territory of South India. Devotion and faith are extremely deep. Over three hundred li southwest of the royal capital is Black Bee Mountain (Bhramaragirī). Formerly, the great king built this monastery for the Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna (formerly called Longshu). The monastery has five storeys above and below, chiseled out of stone. Water is channeled to circulate and pour; many are its wondrous transformations. From then until now, pure attendants firmly guard it, and few ever ascend. The stone statue in the niche is of tremendous size. On the day the monastery was completed, Nāgārjuna approached the mountain and coated it with medicinal ointment, turning it into purple gold, peerless in the world. Furthermore, there are countless wrapped scripture pitakas. Ancient elders hand down the tradition that these are all from the initial compilation and all exist at present. Although the Buddhadharma outside has repeatedly suffered slaughter and destruction, this single mountain's maintenance of the Dharma has remained unchanged. Recently, a monk came and spent the summer retreat there; he was only allowed to read and recite them, not to carry them away. He reported this matter in detail, but the path is remote and blocked, difficult to seek out. Further south, one arrives at the country of Andhra, belonging to South India. Over twenty li southwest of the capital, the stone stūpa on the isolated mountain ridge is the place where Bodhisattva Dignāga composed his treatise on Hetuvidyā (Logic).
