- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [32.49](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2122.32.49)

> Nüwa, the daughter of the Flame Emperor (Yandi), was playing in the Eastern Sea when she drowned and died, transforming into the Jingwei bird. Its shape was like a crow; it constantly carried twigs and stones from the western mountains in its beak to fill in the Eastern Sea. (堙 means to block up; its pronunciation is \*yin\*.) Kuafu raced with the sun; parched, he drank from the Yellow River, but the River went dry and was insufficient, so he went north to drink from the Great Marsh. Before reaching it, he died on the road. The staff he cast away transformed into the Deng Forest. (The above three verifications are from the Shanhai jing.)
