> Furthermore, the \*Sūtra on the Karmic Retribution for Making Images\* says: The Buddha arrived in the country of Kuru. At that time, the ruler of the country was named King Udayana, aged only fourteen. Hearing that the Buddha was about to arrive, he ordered all his attendants and courtiers to go out and welcome the Buddha. Arriving, he bowed with his head to the Buddha's feet, knelt long with hands clasped, and said to the Buddha: "Among gods and humans, none can equal the Buddha; your majestic light is towering like this. After the Buddha departs, I fear I shall see you no more. Now I wish to make an image of the Buddha to revere and serve with devotion. What karmic retribution will I obtain? May the Buddha have pity and explain it to me."
