> In the nineteenth year of the Zhenguan era of the Tang (645), Dharma Master Min, who had lodged in mountain caves and excelled in the Way, visited the sacred traces. Stirred in spirit, he led several hundred disciples to the monastery for one month to expound the sutras and treatises; scholar-officials and commoners all gathered. In the night, someone saw over a hundred foreign monks circumambulating the stupa and practicing the Path, and reported the matter to the assembly. The monastery monks said: 'This matter happens frequently, nothing to wonder at. From antiquity to the present, on the four great auspicious days, people from near and far come to the monastery to hold vegetarian feasts and plant blessings. And at night one frequently sees the appearances of foreign monks walking the Path, chanting sutras, and intoning pāṭha.'
