> When Emperor Wenxuan of the Northern Qi was at Jinyang, he sent a man riding a white dromedary camel to go to his monastery and fetch his sutra cases. The envoy asked, for he did not know which monastery. The Emperor said: "Just let the camel go; it will know the monastery's location on its own." Leaving the city at dusk, the camel ran extremely fast, and \[the envoy\] was suddenly as if asleep. Abruptly he reached a mountain named Mingji (Dark Solitude). Halfway up the mountain there was a monastery. A crowd of novices said: "Gao Yang's dromedary camel has come!" They led him straight into the monastery. He saw an old monk, and having bowed, \[the monk\] asked: "What is it like, Gao Yang being the Son of Heaven?" He replied: "He is sagacious and enlightened." \[The monk\] asked: "Why have you come?" He replied: "He ordered me to fetch his sutra cases." The monk said: "When Yang was at the monastery, he was lazy about reading the sutras; why does he need to fetch them now?" Pointing northward, he said: "The eastern end is his original room. You may fetch the cases from there and give them to him." Thereupon \[the envoy\] mounted the camel and returned, as if in sleep, as if in a dream. In an instant he reached Jinyang and reported back with the cases. Not long afterward, the Emperor traveled to Mujing Temple at Gukou. There was a self-sacrificing fool who could not speak, but he suddenly said to the Emperor: "I shall go first; you may come later." The Emperor assented to it. That night the fool died. Shortly after, the Emperor fell ill at Jinyang. He had Liu Taozhi carry him as he walked, blood dripping from his nose. That night the Emperor passed away.
