> The lower direction refers to male and female servants. If there is a person who can provide for servants with clothing, food, and medicine for illness and emaciation, neither scolding nor beating them, this person is able to provide for the lower direction of servants. These servants in return repay them with ten matters: first, not committing offences; second, not waiting to be told before acting; third, always completing what they do; fourth, acting swiftly without letting time be lost; fifth, never abandoning the master even if the master is poor; sixth, rising early; seventh, guarding possessions; eighth, repaying much for little kindness; ninth, respectfully caring for them with an utmost mind; tenth, adeptly concealing bad matters.
