When distributing incense to women, fearing contact of hands and defiling attachment, it is allowed to receive it while seated." (If one fears disrespect or contempt, having it set down suspended is also permitted; when a man distributes incense and a woman receives it, the reverse of the above applies.) The commentary states: If one receives clothing and food without distinguishing between fine and coarse, and merely sustains bodily life so as to cultivate the Way, this accords with the Buddha's intention. Just as greasing a cart requires oil without choosing whether it is exquisite or not, as long as it turns smoothly and reaches its destination, it is well done.
