### [46.26](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2122.46.26)

> Furthermore, the Saṃyuktāgama states: At that time, the World-Honoured One addressed the bhikṣus: "Suppose a wooden pestle is used constantly without stopping; day and night it wears away. In the same way, bhikṣus, if one has never closed the sense faculties, knows no moderation in eating, and does not diligently stay awake in the first and last watches of the night to cultivate wholesome dharmas, know that such people will diminish all day long and not increase in wholesome dharmas, just like that wooden pestle."
