> Indeed, straying into empty talk is not as good as verifying by factual matters; hearing of something in vague resemblance is not as good as determining it by ears and eyes. Therefore, believing is not as good as learning, and speaking is not as good as practicing. Thus, investigating subtle impetuses and tallying with principle is truly the vast foundation of the ultimate sages; calming external conditions and practicing frugality in affairs is the great capacity of the consummate persons. If one does not plant an unconfined mind, how could there be an inexhaustible resonance? Therefore, with a single hair or a single grain, the intention is to deliver the four classes of beings; with a single thought or a single snap of the fingers, one constantly supports the six perfections. These merits surpass half a breath, and their arising extends to the future limit. Embracing simplicity and frugality, one's virtue also surpasses high models.
