In the first year of the Taining era of Shi Hu, Daokai and his disciples went south, crossing over to Xuchang. Shi Hu's sons and nephews slaughtered one another, and the capital of Ye fell into great chaos. In the third year of the Shengping era of the Jin, he came to Jianye, and shortly afterward reached Nanhai. Later he entered Mount Luofu, dwelling alone in a thatched hut, tranquil and detached beyond worldly things. At the age of over one hundred years, he died in his mountain cottage. He instructed his disciples to place his corpse in a stone cave; the disciples then moved it into a stone chamber. There was a man named Kang Hong who, formerly at Beijian, heard Daokai's disciples describe that when Daokai was formerly in the mountains, divine immortals frequently came and went. Thereupon he reverently admired him from afar. When he was later on official duty in Nanhai, he met him in person, leaning forward respectfully to look up to his virtue.
