At this time, on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, the World-Honoured One laid out his seat in the open air, and the assembly of monks surrounded him before and behind. The Buddha told Ānanda: "Quickly strike the gaṇḍī now. Today, the fifteenth day of the seventh month, is the day for receiving the years \[of the monastic age\] (pravāraṇā)."
