> Now, concerning the retribution of devas: their consciousness is rich and splendid, their clothing and ornaments bright and novel, and their physical forms light and exquisite. Yet atop Paranirmitavaśavartin resides the Demon King; within the samādhi of non-conception one turns instead into a non-Buddhist; at the peak of the four formless realms evil attachments are not slight; and among the six realms of desire delusion is exceedingly heavy. Unable to uphold prajñā or make offerings to nirvāṇa, their arrogance ever increases and their conception of self and other grows ever more intense. For this reason, the flowers on their heads wither, sweat flows from their armpits down their lapels, the jewelled palaces lose their radiance, and their gossamer garments gather grime. Relying on this pure mind, may all of these be confessed and washed clean. Universally for the Cāturmahārājakāyika, Trāyastriṃśa, Tuṣita, Yāma, Nirmāṇarati, Paranirmitavaśavartin, the Mahābrahmā, Brahmapurohita, Ābhāsvara, Śubhakṛtsna, Bṛhatphala, Anāgāmin, Avṛha, Atapa, Sudṛśa, Sudarśana; the sphere of boundless space, the sphere of boundless consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception; extending horizontally to the limits of other realms, and vertically to the highest heavens—whether sitting upright on lotus pedestals, remaining still for kalpas, or focusing their spirits within jade palaces, a single glance spanning a thousand years: may their spontaneous garments never depart from their forms; may they forever enjoy roaming through the Hall of the Good Dharma; may they be cut off from the sickness of separation upon birth; may they be free from the toil of military battle; may they forever leave behind the five signs of decay and always be enriched with the seven jewels, their physical forms dignified and their deportment brilliant, forever abandoning the causes of suffering and ascending purely to joyful fruits.
