> Wu Ziying of the Song was a man of Shuxiang. Good at going into the water, he caught a red carp; admiring its fine color, he brought it home and did not kill it. He raised it in a pond, frequently feeding it with rice and grain. Having eaten this for one year, it grew to over a zhang in length, and then sprouted horns and wings. Ziying bowed in fear and gave thanks to it. The fish said, 'I have come to welcome you. Mount my back, and I will ascend to heaven together with you.' Once a year he would return to see his wife and children, and the fish would welcome him back later. There were seventy people who did like this. Therefore, households in the Wu region all set up shrines to the Divine Fish and Ziying. (The one verified account above comes from the \*Biographies of the Immortals\*.)
