> "Remaining far from taking life, / Guarding oneself by keeping precepts, / Inflicting no harm on living beings: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Remaining far from taking what is not given, / Joyfully rejoicing in given things, / Severing the mind of thievery: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Not pursuing what another loves, / Remaining far from sexual misconduct, / Practising contentment with one's own: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Neither for oneself nor for another, / Neither for wealth nor in jest, / Never uttering false speech: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Severing divisive speech, / Not estranging another's kin and friends, / Constantly mindful of reconciling both sides: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Remaining far from harsh words, / Speaking gently without hurting others, / Constantly speaking pure and pleasing words: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Not speaking of what is unaccomplished, / Nor meaningless or unprofitable matters, / Constantly conforming to words of Dharma: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / In a village or empty land, / Seeing gain and claiming, 'This is mine'— / Not engaging in such greedy thoughts: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / With a mind of loving-kindness, free from thoughts of harming, / Doing no injury to sentient beings, / The mind ever free from resentment: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / Toward suffering karma and its fruit of retribution, / Cultivating pure faith in both, / Receiving and upholding right view: / This is the path to birth in heaven. / These various wholesome dharmas, / Ten kinds of traces of pure karma: / Universally receiving and firmly upholding them, / This is the path to birth in heaven."
