> Concealed within stone is surely not genuine; / An adorned vase is truly false.
> Stealing rank above the palace gate, / Playing out of tune beneath the dark canopy.
> Sacrifices to the phoenix vainly startle the heart; / The patterns of the Zou beast ultimately love the wilderness.
> How can the true form be displayed? / Fleeting glory cannot yet be cast aside.
> Traces differ from the look of caps and robes, / As deeds imitate those who rush about.
> Let it end! Cease the sounds of Zheng, / Which naturally disrupt the Zhou odes.
> Riches and honour fruitlessly vie for fame; / Favor and disgrace emptily revile one another.
> In an instant, a candle in the wind and fire— / How are illusory bubbles worth grasping?
