> In the Jin period, Fotudeng had arts broader than all antiquity, and his spiritual attainments surpassed the multitude. In the Jin Jianwu reign-period, from the first month to the sixth month, there was a great drought. Shi Hu sent the crown prince to Fukou, west of Linzhang, to pray for rain, but after a long time none fell. Shi Hu ordered Fotudeng to pray himself; immediately two white dragons descended to the shrine. On that day, heavy rain fell over an area of several thousand li. That year brought a bumper harvest. The barbarian tribes had previously not known the Dharma; hearing of Fotudeng's divine efficacy, they all bowed in reverence from afar, and were transformed without a word spoken.
